Accountant

Location: Little Rock, AR (Hybrid – in-office 3 days/week)
Salary Range: $61,000 – $69,000
Reports to: Director of Finance
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Our Mission

Heifer Foundation’s mission is to raise and oversee financial assets to support the work of Heifer International, a global organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth.

As an Accountant, you will support that mission by maintaining accurate accounting and financial reporting systems that ensure transparency, stewardship, and compliance—providing critical infrastructure to help donors’ legacy gifts thrive for generations.

What You’ll Do

General Accounting & Reconciliation – 75%

  • Proper recording and documentation of accounting entries. 
  • Reconcile investment, bank, and general ledger accounts.  
  • Process timely and accurate beneficiary distributions on a routine basis. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reports. 

Reporting & Audit Readiness (15%)

  • Create beneficiary statements, reports, and IRS filings (e.g. 1099s and annual trust statements).
  • Prepare and file state and federal registrations related to the Foundation’s activities (e.g. charitable solicitation and annuity registrations). 
  • Assist in preparing schedules and responding to requests related to the annual audit.

    Operational Integrity & Administrative Excellence (10%)

    • Ensure that written accounting policies and procedures are maintained and followed, in accordance with current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
    • Maintain organization of accounting records and files.
    • Assist other Foundation departments’ staff with accounting-related questions, research, etc.
    • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

    KEY DETAILS

    • Location: Little Rock, AR (Hybrid – in-office 3 days/week)
    • Salary Range: $61,000 – $69,000 annually
    • Reports to: Director of Finance
    • Education & Experience: BA in accounting, finance or related field required; Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting, preferably in investment or not-for-profit settings
    • Status: Full-Time, Exempt
